Geocaching and Geotrekking in Sri Lanka

Geotrekking is an activity of recreational navigation with the aid of a GPS (Global Positioning System). One of the famous Geotrekking activity is Geocaching game.

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting activity/ game. In this game, players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online in geocahcing.com web site. For this you need a GPS device or mobile applications which allow users to view caches through a variety of different devices. Currently, the Android, iPhone, webOS, and Windows Phone 7 mobile platforms have applications for Geocahcing.

Tourists as well as some Sri Lankans now engage in Geocaching. According to geocaching.com web site Geocahes (hidden containers sought in the game of Geocahcing) can be found in various places in hill country as well as coastal and other inland areas of Sri Lanka: Dambulla Rock Temple, Sigiriaya Rock, Ritigala, Anuradhapura, World’s End, Piduruthalagala, Hummanaya, Buduruwagala, Lahugala, Arugam-bay. Eagle rocks group in Haputale promotes these activities around Lipton Seat, Bambarakanda, Diyaluma Falls, Haputale and Dambathanna water fall.

    Are there any premium member only geocaches in Sri Lanka? Headed there next week and wondering if I should extend my premium membership..
